Review

Season two of Dexter is great. It’s the first truly original storyline for the TV show, as the first one was based on the book. This one is completely made up. That’s a good thing, now we get the chance to get possibly 2 new dexter stories a year.

Each season of Dexter is like that of a novel. Each episode tells a part of the story, that ramps up and never lets go until the end.

I watched season two when it aired, I waited until the last episode ran, and then had a marathon, I re-watched season 1 on dvd, and blasted through season 2 right after. I think season 2 is better than 1, if you wanted to rate them. Its darker, and more fulfilling. Dexter’s relationship with Rita goes through some struggles and hard times, Deb, Dexters sister, is trying to recoup over what happened during last season, and Dexter meets a new person who gets him to take off his mask, and become who he can be.

Dexter grows and changes throughout the season, for character such as Dexter, this is huge, this is major, and it provides for great entertainment. The first time I watched season 2 my heart was pounding, I didn’t know what was going to happen, how it would happen, or anything. I was completely hooked onto the edge of my seat, and did not ever want to let go, I remember, I was still up watching it until 4 am at night (had to go to work the next day at 8 ) and could not stop until I reached the end. It is that good, and is one of the reasons why I think Dexter is one of the best shows to ever grace the airwaves.

This show is not for young children, it is filled with gore throughout, Dexter is a Serial Killer after all. With that said, you would be hard pressed to find a better way to spend 20-25 dollars than Dexter season 2. It was one of the best shows ever made, and I cannot wait for season 3!

Video - 5/5

Good video, better than last season.

Audio - 5/5

Great sound, and I love the music.

Supplements - 1/5

Dear showtime, I love watching series TV, so much so, I would enjoy some audio commentaries, behind the scenes with cast and crew, talks with the writers, anything really. I don’t need “free” episodes from other series, you create good shows, I know that, your fans know that, use that extra space to better distribute the episodes to give us more features (Like commentaries) and better video quality. Or even better, I dunno, Bonus FEATURES!

Overall - 5/5

Best season yet, cannot wait for season 3. This was edge of your seat entertainment from beginning to end. Not as good the second time around, but still good. Will provide much visceral entertainment. (This should be a 4/5 because of the lack of supplements, but I cannot bad mouth one of the best shows made, I just hope they get their act together and start making extras, and release the show on blu-ray. The very low price does make up for the lack of extras, which is why I did give it a 5)

Overall Rating - 5/5 Stars

Video - 5/5
Audio - 5/5
Bonus - 1/5
Story - 5/5

You do not get any better than Dexter I recommend it

Bottom Line?
Buy it, buy them all. Read the Novel before viewing season 1 for the best time (they are similar but not the same, they have different endings which greatly change how you perceive the rest of the show, but you will be fine just watching the show, as season 1 is basically the book, with a few changes) Season 2 is original, so watch it after season 1. Both seasons are around 10 hours long, nothing you cant watch in a day or two. Check it out. I highly recommend it!

    My Amazon.com Review

Dexter is one of my favorite characters.

Season 2 takes place about 5-6 weeks after season 1, debbie is trying to coop with what happened to her last season, and and some of the other characters are trying to move past what happened near the end of last season. Early on, Dexter’s bodies are discovered in the ocean.

This brings about what season 2 is about, as the heat gets closer and closer on Dexter, he has to choose between accepting who he is, trying to change, or giving up.

This is a great season, we get some new characters, and this is an original storyline not found in any of the books. Julie’s character (Rita) gets more face time this season, and really starts to come around and be more of herself. You feel sorry for her, and proud of her.

Dexter starts getting help for his “addiction” and meets someone who starts to change him, for good or worse, and provides lots of conflict for this season.

I do not wish to spoil anything, so please understand why I’m being so cryptic.

    I rate this set as

    Overall Rating - 5/5 Stars
    Video - 5/5
    Audio - 5/5
    Bonus - 1/5
    Story - 5/5

It is as good or better than season 1 in everyway, with exception to the extras. I want more extras! This is ridiculous!

I kept this as 5 stars, even taking into account the abysmal lack of extras because of the very low price of the dvds, and the phenomenal content contained on those discs.

This is a no-brainer purchase in my mind, and a delightful evening well spent. You can tare through the season in about 10 hours.
